Plug plants are a brilliant way to fill your garden with long lasting colour for great value. These small young perennials are usually around 3 cm to 5 cm in size, making them perfect for anyone who wants to grow their plants on at home and enjoy watching them develop. They establish quickly, and with a little care at the start, they soon catch up with our 9 cm plants.
Every plug is a genuine outdoor perennial, just at an earlier stage of growth. Because we grow outdoor plants, some plugs may arrive with little or no top growth at certain times of year. This is completely natural and simply reflects the season. What matters most is the root health, and each plug has a strong young root system that gets growing fast once planted.
Plug plants are ideal for mass planting, filling borders on a budget, or trying new varieties without committing to a larger pot size. They are also a great option if you prefer to shape and grow your plants from a younger stage. Most plugs take around eight to twelve weeks to reach the size of a typical 9 cm pot, depending on the time of year.
When your plugs arrive, unpack them straight away, give them a gentle drink, and keep them in a bright, sheltered spot for a few days while they settle. They travel best when the roots are slightly moist, so please plant them as soon as you can after delivery.
We have included clear photos that show the typical plug size, the root quality, and how the plant will look once it has established. This helps you see exactly what to expect at each stage.
If you need any help choosing the right plugs for your garden, we are always happy to advise. We handle everything as quickly and efficiently as possible, and if something is not right, just let us know within the usual timeframes and we will look into it for you.
