Erigeron is one of the most cheerful and easy going perennials you can grow, bringing a soft, airy carpet of daisy like flowers from spring right into autumn. It is loved for its ability to weave through borders, spill over the edges of pots and fill little gaps in paving and walls, creating a natural, relaxed look that suits almost any garden style. Once planted, it needs very little attention and rewards you with an incredibly long flowering season.
This plant forms clouds of tiny white blooms that slowly blush to pink as they age, giving a lovely mix of colours all at once. It is a favourite for softening hard edges around patios, steps and paths, and is perfect for sunny spots where you want a plant that spreads gently without becoming troublesome. Erigeron looks especially good growing at the base of shrubs and small trees, where it adds lightness and movement beneath more structural planting.
Erigeron is very low maintenance. It thrives in full sun, copes well with poor soil and is drought tolerant once established, making it ideal for busy gardeners or anyone looking for reliable, effortless colour. It also attracts bees and other pollinators, adding life and energy to the garden for months on end.
This versatile perennial pairs beautifully with trailing thyme, hardy geraniums, nepeta and dwarf grasses for a soft, cottage garden feel. It also works well in modern gardens where its natural, tumbling habit helps break up straight lines and add a relaxed touch to planters and raised beds.
