Phlox subulata MacDaniel’s Cushion is a vibrant, low growing perennial that forms a dense carpet of evergreen foliage topped with masses of bright pink flowers in spring. The abundant blooms create a bold early season display, making it ideal for rockeries, slopes, the front of sunny borders and for trailing over walls. Its neat, mat forming habit helps to cover soil, soften hard edges and bring a natural, relaxed feel to planting. MacDaniel’s Cushion is reliable, easy to grow and offers year round structure through its evergreen leaves.

This plant is supplied as a young perennial plug around 3 to 5 cm in size. These smaller plants grow on quickly once potted and usually take around eight to twelve weeks to reach the size of a typical 9 cm pot. When your young plant arrives, unpack it straight away and water gently if the compost feels dry. Pot the plug into a small pot using fresh compost and keep the compost lightly moist while the roots establish. Once the plant has grown on and the risk of frost has passed, it can be planted into the garden where it will develop into a healthy, long lasting perennial.
