Salvia verticillata ‘Purple Rain’ is a compact, long-flowering perennial that produces masses of violet-purple flower spikes from early summer through to autumn. The blooms rise above a low mound of softly textured, aromatic foliage, attracting bees and butterflies throughout the season. Its slightly sprawling habit makes it perfect for softening the edge of sunny borders or mixing through naturalistic planting.

It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, flowering for months with minimal care. For a rich, layered display, plant it with Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’ for movement and Geranium ‘Rozanne’ for long-lasting colour and contrast.

Sunlight: Full sun
Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil
Position: Ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens, or wildlife planting
Hardiness: Fully hardy perennial
Height & Spread: Around 40–50cm tall and 45–60cm spread

Many garden designers recommend planting Salvia in groups of three for a balanced, cohesive look. It helps the plants stand out together and creates a lovely flow in your garden. But don't worry—this plant also looks great on its own or in smaller groupings!
