This shrub is deciduous, it will lose all of its leaves in autumn, new growth will appear in spring. Leave the faded flower heads in place over winter.
In early spring, cut back the stems to a pair of strong buds. Remove any branches which are crossing or damaged. After pruning, apply a mulch of compost around the base of the plant.
