Dicentra spectabilis Alba is a graceful spring flowering perennial with elegant arching stems of pure white, heart shaped blooms. These delicate flowers appear above soft green foliage, bringing a calm, woodland feel to shaded borders. It is ideal for naturalistic planting, cottage style gardens and areas where the soil stays cool and moist. After flowering, the foliage dies back naturally before reappearing each spring with a fresh display. Alba offers a beautifully light alternative to the classic pink form and blends easily with ferns and other shade lovers.

This plant is supplied as a young perennial plug around 3 to 5 cm in size. These smaller plants grow on quickly once potted and usually take around eight to twelve weeks to reach the size of a typical 9 cm pot. When your young plant arrives, unpack it straight away and water gently if the compost feels dry. Pot the plug into a small pot using fresh compost and keep the compost lightly moist while the roots establish. Once the plant has grown on and the risk of frost has passed, it can be planted into the garden where it will develop into a healthy, long lasting perennial.
