This plant is a herbaceous perennial. Herbaceous perennials die back below ground level each autumn, then fresh new growth will appear in the spring. Stake the tall stems before the flowers appear. Feed throughout the growing season. Cut back spikes of faded flowers to a side shoot to encourage a second flush of flowers. Cut back foliage in autumn to ground level.
