Lavatera can be prone to rust, a fungal disease that causes orange or brown spots on the leaves, particularly later in the season. This is more likely in still, humid conditions or where plants are overcrowded. Good air circulation, avoiding overhead watering and removing affected foliage can help reduce the risk.  
Prune back hard in spring to encourage strong new growth.
