This shrub is deciduous, it will lose all of its leaves in autumn, fresh new growth will appear in the spring. After flowering, prune established plants, removing 1 in 4 of the oldest, weakest branches to the base.  Apply a generous mulch of well rotted compost around the base of the plant after pruning.
