When to plant
Most spring-flowering bulbs are planted in autumn, from September to November, before the ground becomes too hard. This allows them to develop strong roots over winter and burst into flower as soon as the warmer weather arrives.
How to plant
Plant bulbs at two to three times their own depth, pointed end up, in well-drained soil. Grouping bulbs in clusters creates a natural look and a bigger splash of colour. For a longer-lasting and layered display, try a
bulb lasagne – planting different bulbs at varying depths in the same pot so they flower in succession throughout spring. Once planted, they need little attention and will return year after year.
