Despite the cold and wet weather, there’s many a keen gardener amongst us willing to get stuck in no matter the time of year. Most will assume that winter isn’t the best time to plant, due to the hardness of the ground and the risk of frost, however, there are indeed some plants that are perfect for planting during this time of year. Giving your garden just what it needs to remain a bright and welcoming place to be, even if you’d prefer to be sat inside with a nice hot beverage. While other bulbs will have plenty of time to grow and bloom in time for the much welcomed arrival of spring.

Keep reading below for 5 of our favourite plants to plant during the winter months of November, December and January.

1 - Pansies

Pansies are an incredibly versatile and hardy plant. Capable of thriving even in the harsh UK winters. Available to purchase in bright colours such as blues, oranges, yellows, and purples,  pansies are just what you need to reignite the same vibrancy of your garden in summer. While most other plants will not be flowering at this time, at least you can depend on the reliable pansies to add some colour and life back into your borders and beds. Since pansies are so versatile, you can choose to plant them just about anywhere in your garden, brightening the smallest of corners or even your patio.

At One Click Plants we stock a lovely tray of mixed pansies, including as part of our  Autumn and Winter flowering mix. The perfect combination of plants for some much needed colour throughout these grey and dreary months.

2 - Hellebores

Hellebores, or more commonly referred to as Christmas roses, are another beautiful option of winter flowers. They bloom in late winter or early spring, and their flowers blossom in a variety of colours, including stunning shades of white, pink, purple, and green. Hellebores are also incredibly versatile and are also shade-tolerant, meaning they can be grown in some of the covered parts of your garden and also in containers or in the ground. Much like pansies, Christmas roses make for the perfect addition to your garden this winter, and what better time to plant them than the lead up to Christmas! Available to purchase as part of our  Autumn/Winter 2023 collection, order hellebores directly from our Lancashire nursery to your home today.
